Quality AssurancePet Health Pharmacy (a division of Women's International Pharmacy, Inc.) is committed to providing quality compounded prescription medications for animals. To this end, we employ good compounding practices as found in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapter <795>, Pharmaceutical Compounding-Non-Sterile Preparations.
Pet Health Pharmacy maintains stringent compounding proficiency and quality assurance standards. We comply with applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Compounding is completed by skilled pharmacists as well as nationally certified technicians. Staff completes regular training programs and competency assessments as required by state regulations and federal guidelines.
Specially Designed Facilities and Equipment Ensure QualityPet Health Pharmacy has specially designed facilities to ensure the quality of our compounded medications. We follow all established guidelines for testing ingredients and compounds. Our lab staff uses personal protective gear (masks and gloves), as well as powder containment (ventilation hoods) and sanitized equipment. Our compounding area is segregated and operates on a self-contained ventilation system. Every piece of equipment is expertly maintained. Cleaning and maintenance are documented according to USP requirements.
To ensure accuracy and uniformity of compounded medications, Pet Health Pharmacy utilizes equipment that meets quality standards, including electronic balances, encapsulation equipment, and electronic mortars and pestles. Equipment is evaluated for accuracy on a daily basis. An independent ISO 9002 and Guide 25 Registered Scale Company conducts regular external evaluations of our balances.
Only High-Grade Materials UsedPet Health Pharmacy uses only high-grade materials including United States Pharmacopeia (USP), National Formulary (NF), Food Chemicals Codex (FCC), Analytical Reagent Grade and American Chemical Society Certified from reputable sources. Each active ingredient is delivered with a certificate of analysis verifying the identity and quality of the pure drug powders. Independent testing of ingredients by an analytical laboratory may also be done. All waste is disposed of at Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved facilities.
Procedural StandardsProcedures for compounding are thoroughly reviewed prior to implementation. These procedures are then validated to ensure that the compounded medications are of the appropriate strength, quality, and purity. Routinely, outside analytical laboratories are used to validate our processes.
Each individual compound is prepared according to a standard procedure. All staff involved in compounding documents their activity to ensure accuracy. The finished compound is verified for appearance, quality, quantity and standardization of dosing. Every prescription can be tracked back to the ingredients used to make the compound and the personnel involved via lot numbers and electronic records.
Continuous Quality Improvement and Professional AffiliationsAt Pet Health Pharmacy, maintaining the high quality of our preparations is of paramount importance. Therefore, a continuous quality improvement process is employed. Our entire staff takes an active role in our quality review and improvement process.

We maintain relationships with the Midwestern College of Pharmacy and our state pharmacy association.
Pet Health Pharmacy is proud to report earning the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board's (PCAB®) Seal of Accreditation for meeting and/or exceeding national quality standards. PCAB® Accreditation is an additional, voluntary step to ensure the compounding pharmacy profession's most rigorous review and inspection measures are met. To earn the designation "PCAB® Accredited compounding pharmacy," an extensive application was completed that was reviewed by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board. Compounding policies and procedures were then reviewed by professionals. Next, an extensive on-site inspection was conducted by compounding experts. Pet Health Pharmacy was awarded accreditation only after these stringent evaluations were completed and the pharmacy was deemed compliant with PCAB's® quality and safety standards.
